Jie Zhen's entrance into the story stems from a tiger-hunting incident. He hunted a white-furred tiger with hanging eyes on Baihu Mountain in Dengzhou, but the tiger fled into the Prefect's office. Mao Taigong's son, Mao Zhongyi, forcibly claimed the prey and schemed to frame the Jie brothers for theft, resulting in them being thrown into death row and subjected to severe torture. Fortunately, they were rescued by Sun Li, the Dengzhou Military Trainer, and Gu Dasao, who broke into the prison. The Jie brothers survived and eventually joined Liangshan Marsh with the others.

During the period of alliance at Liangshan, Jie Zhen primarily utilized his hunter skills to gather military intelligence, scout enemy situations, and track fugitives, providing unique tactical value. However, during the campaign against Fang La, Jie Zhen was unfortunately struck by stray arrows while fighting enemy generals in Qingxi County and ultimately died a heroic death. After his death, he was posthumously honored by the court as Yijie Lang.
