In the original description, Sun Wukong did not directly attack the Black Wind Cave but dealt with Lingxu Zi first. He employed his 72 Transformations to become a Golden Eagle. When Lingxu Zi was drinking in front of the cave, Wukong transformed into the bird of prey, swooped down, and pecked him to death. The book details Wukong "pecking the wolf spirit to death in one go, then reverting to his original form, holding him in hand, opening his belly, and taking out his heart and liver" to intimidate the demons.
